I saw John and the Goners play two years in a row on the "Bring the family" tour and the "Slow Turning" tours. The dates were the last nights of each tour and they were incredible. This was in San Diego at a place called "the Baccannal". It was a small club in a strip mall but I saw some great shows there.JJ Cale is another memorable performer. The Beat Farmers would play there every new Years eve and Country Dick Montana would hand out "The Beat Farmer's Almanac" which was all hand drawn.

This song reminds me of the sierras.

Here Sonny Landreth does a good job of capturing Ry Cooder's style and feeling. Listen to each of them doing what they do best and you'll hear two very different and very exciting things.

john hiatt is the man. that's all.

amazing

Ry Cooder is much smoother on the slide. Sonny is good but I smile when Ry plays

FANTASTICA ....

Yes, that's Sonny Landreth. Being a slide player I have to say that Ry Cooder is probably my biggest influence and he did the solo on the original recording but when Hiatt started touring I guess Ry wasn't available or whatever and Sonny had some big shoes to fill and I'm my opinion he filled them nicely. He and Ry have two pretty different styles so I don't feel one is better than the other but Sonny is quite an innovator on slide guitar.

@DaleRobertSzyms If you like Ry Cooders slide, don't forget to check out "Jesus on the Mainline" with Moula Banda, Catalyst Santa Cruz, '87. He plays a sick slide on a Mandoguitar.
