Dear Lord this year you have taken away my favorite actor, Patrick Swayze, my favorite actress, Farrah Fawcett, my favorite singer, Michael Jackson, and my favorite salesman, Billy Mays. I just wanted to let you know that Chris Christie is my favorite governor. Please take him away too!

correlation does not equal causation. as i said earlier, there is no reason to assume that education on the free market would not have evolved to prepare kids to be competitive in the future an i have every reason to believe that would have been the case. what do you even know about the historical details of the public education system in america? the first compulsory school system, in massachusetts was actually established to "protect" children from non-protestant religious education.

@chainzdown2dadik I'm not making any specific argument per se. I'm showing the context of the historical reality of the US and the historical reality of public education. As I said below: Show me a single example of a wealthy and powerful industrialized country with a strong tradition of constitutional/civil rights that never had public education. Your desire to eliminate public education isn't backed by an facts of reality. You're free to believe it, but I require facts to be convinced.

@MarmaladeINFP maybe you should study some economics so that you can properly interpret history. if you're going to say that one thing lead to another, show me the statistics and demonstrate how that and only that could be said to have been the cause. i see things much differently.

@chainzdown2dadik There were specific policies that literally made houses more affordable for the people buying the houses. The recent economic problems had diverse causes. I was talking about the economy of a half century ago which didn't have the problems we now have. As for higher education, the govt (state and federal) used to put more funding into it. At that time, someone could graduate from college without being in debt. Maybe you should study some history.

@MarmaladeINFP what the hell are you talking about? yes public education was part of the so-called progressive movement but what does that mean? i don't even know why i'm wasting my time here. listen man. the progressive movement did not make anything more affordable for anyone. did we not just have a housing crash due to skyrocketing prices thanks to efforts to make houses more affordable? higher education more affordable? don't make me laugh. tell that to the people up to their knees in debt.
Ed really has no idea how disgusting the teacher's union is in NJ. Thank god for Chris Christie.

@TwoAiren i'm a teacher in Mississippi. we have people mad because Gov, Barbor is making us pay a little more towards our own retirement, in order to keep the system solvent...what a terrible person.
it's a good retirement...almost too good to be true. i'm personally glad that the governor is working to keep it solvent. it's called responsibility.
