A quick digital pencil sketch of a man being embraced by his (imaginary?) monster friend. This was created as a personal fun project but could easily be used in a breath mint advertisment, come to think of it.

Tools used: Cintiq 21 UX pen tablet, Autodesk SketchBook Pro software.

My name is Ian David Marsden and I am a professional illustrator and cartoonist (and flash animator).

An interesting fact about be:
I drew the first Google Doodle. Ever.

I am available for contract work. Please contact me directly: info@marsdencartoons.com.

  • Can you put up tutorials on how to draw like this for begginers :) thanks cuz i rlly wana learn this but dont know what to search i search cartoon and its not like this this is more detailed thanks man :)

  • @nate18871 Just keep practicing and sketching. Also there are a bunch of good books out there. 'How to draw comics the marvel way' for example is good for beginners...see if you can take some figure drawing classes as well.

  • Hi, do you recommend getting a Cintiq? I have a Bamboo, but I find it takes a bit of getting used to because you're drawing on one surface and having it appear on another. I love comics/ graphic novels as an artform.

  • @howva Well, there is a bit of a price-difference which is why I worked with an Intuos for years, but yes absolutely I recommend the Cintiq as the top professional tool.

  • hi .. my sketchbook pro doesnt work correctley .. when i want to use my pensil it doenst show me where my pen is if you know what i mean .. i only see a really small dot while when i look at your vid i see a cross where you draw .. do you have a sollution for me?

    thx dropj3

  • @dropj3 Sounds like you have to calibrate your tablet in your Wacom settings. As far as the cross hair this is in the preferences and general settings of each individual program.

  • @KiDD275 I don't know why but I don't like drawing in Photoshop at all. I find the pens and brushes very unresponsive. I always draw either in Sketchbook, Painter or Illustrator. However I use Photoshop a lot for everything else from coloring to color correction, it's a fantastic program. Just not for drawing (in my opinion).

  • I just thought I'd share this with people:

Anytime I watch a sketching video with music I don't like or no music at all, I mute the video and play this one on a separate tab:

    /watch?v=YGRO05WcNDk

  • This is magic ...

  • Pen and paper are still the way to go. Cintiq second....and way down the line, an Intuos. Intuous are great for texture creation and the like.

  • @ShiftcommandH he used a drawing tablet: the "cintiq 21 ux" made by wacom

  • cool vid
