I actually saw the officer from a long way off. He was really no threat to me, he was on the other side of the concrete barrier. The alert on the Escort Redline when I got right next to him. It was not full blast, I think he was using his rear antenna to hit cars coming up behind him. I really didn't get any warning from the CB or the Redline.

  • wow, didn't alert from a far distant.

  • There's a difference between manually turning off a radar gun and having the radar gun turn itself on. That is why POP and contstant Ka are different. Now, they are both the same frequencies. The difference is in the way they are delivered and what delivers them. And yes, Instant-On Radar and POP are the same thing. POP is a burst of Ka radar that lasts less than a second, and so is Instant-On. By law, a police officer has to switch from POP (Instant-On) to Constant to be admissible.

  • @htownfx POP and instant on are two different kinds of radar modes.

  • Yeah, some officers turn their unit off whenever they don't see anybody passing by once they get close to them they turn it on quick. I have a beltronics 65pro and have seen thats stuff in several ocations. Even when I'm in front of them it goes off then when I'm like half a mile away it pick it up again since he is aiming at the others cars behind me.

  • If this is instant-on, nobody is going to get the alert until he obviously triggers it. If you're lucky, you will get a warning.

  • Instant On, a. k. a. POP, doesn't display as a decreasing or increasing bar graph. The signal is too short to allow any radar detector to measure its signal strength. So, any POP alert that you receive is already full blast. There are no second chances with Instant On. Sorry!

  • That's why I/O is so effective and the reason to have traffic ahead to at least have a chance of picking up scatter. Fly low.
