@billysue2 fail of a post. Watch Couture vs Big Nog to see Randy's BJJ knowledge getting out of sub attempts and escaping from bad positions. Catch Wrestlers have just as much repertoire as BJJ guys they just do their stuff a bit differently as they are different philosophies on grappling.

@eltubster14 there are no belts in catch and neil doesnt teach bjj so he cant award anyone belt. Also randy is a great grappler but doesnt have a complete sub grappling game so therefore isnt a black belt standard even though he could hold almost any bjjer in the world to a draw.He wouldnt have the full repetoire of abjj black belt, top and bottom games.

Neil gave out a ''black belt'' to Randy Couture in the cage after he'd choked a pro boxer with about 6 months MMA training. Make of that what you will.

BJJ and catch-wrestling are going to continue to feed off and learn from each other (as they have done for ages) and it's going to keep making both styles better.
I think eventually they'll just converge into one system - just with more options.
Awesome.

@palindabomb +1, I've been training in catch wrestling for the past 3 months, and i have to say. I feel like i learn everything i've learned in BJJ and more. Other than highschool wrestling, I've never taken up a grappling style that works our positioning so much. GRRREEEEAT shit, plus the submissions are badass! V locks, neck cranks, and double wrist locks ALL DAY!!!

@Stigmableedingblack don't get caught up in rankings, the fact of the matter is that Randy has the ability to beat any man,in any weight class, on any given day. Vera is not very good, he should go to k1.

melanson is a smart guy. got most of his knowledge from Karo and Gokor

@jackiechavez7 Wow! That's saying a lot! I was gonna go to Vegas and train at both places as well as Cobra Kai. Can't wait!

Wrestling from hold to hold -- or, in terms of catch, from hook to hook -- is something Tony Cecchine's Lost Art of Hooking was preaching over a decade ago. It's great that so many pro fighters these days have the wrestling background to be able to work with this philosophy; it's not about the submissions necessarily (though they can be made more efficient): it's about wrestling into and out of positions where to set up your submissions and catch them with a high percentage. That's catch.

cofeild, you don't deserve to be in the same room with melanson, or anyone involved in this sport. Go back to baseball or football, whatever you want, just get the fuck out of combat sports, you don't belong here.
