There seems to be a bit of confusion about the two ways to use these ladies methods. I tried to break it down in less than 3 minutes but I almost made it to 4 minutes. That is long for me! I was looking off to the side reading.
I think both books work well in conjuction with each other. I like the fact that the CG book has the methods that work for me and the TC book has the ingredient list all in one area. I wich both books would have had an area at the end of each chapter so that you could jot down personal notes but I guess that is what highlighters and sticky notes are for.

I could have left something out so don't kill me!

Curly Girl by Lorraine Massey
1. Stresses the use of a botanical conditioner that is sulfate free and cone free. Not just her product.
2. Leave in a non leave-in condish and use a botanical gel if you wish
3. Her book has styles for women, children, men, chemo hair short hair, long hair and ethnic hair.
4. Gives recipes for homemade products
5. This is truly wash-n-go
6. How to shampoo and trim your hair
7. Comes with a dvd
8. Yes you can get all of this info from the internet. It is just nice to have the book with what you need handy
9. Stories from different women
10. A great guy section
11. Color photos
12. No index in the back but a contents in the front

Curly Like Me by Teri Laflesh (I think people call this the tightly curly method)
1. Yes she has tons of info on her website but her book does include some different things
2. A bit repetitive with the info. Kind of like using same info as a filler
3. Her hair story with great pictures of her hair failures as a child to adulthood in black and white.
4. An indepth look at hair structure and why hair behaves like it does
5. Things that damage your hair like the sun and rough handling
6. Summary atthe end of each chapter
7. How to shampoo
8. She uses a comb or Denman style brush to detangle and clumb the curls. My hair hated this and I had a big frizz ball
9. This is time consuming to try to enhance and define each curl
10. This style is suppose to last 5 days or more
11. You can rewet to refresh your curls in the morning
12. She goes over how to trim
13. Gives a list of ingredients and explains what they do and why they are good/and or bad
14. She actually gives brand names to use and a brief review of how they worked for her
15. Gives a recommendation of books to read and Curly Girl my Lorraine massey is one of them.
16. Only gives styles for long hair and not short hair
17. Gives websites for inter-racial hair and heritage
18. Great index for finding info quickly and contents in the front as well

  • I like the curly girl method best, but I have to admit Ms La Flesh info on which brands do what, is my go to site. I don't agree with everything, but she gives good insight on what might work best or on why you might want to avoid some products. thanks for the info!!:)

  • @jadar47 I am really going to revisit the Tightly Curly method. My hair is more defined now so I think it make work!

  • Have u tried betonite clay? There r many things people mix it with. I just follow the directions and add vinegar and a lil water if it's too thick but it's really really good at clarifying . I follow it with a deep conditioner ...but it defines curls like crazy.

  • @msjelly360 I have not tried it yet. I have been wanting to for a couple of years but I haven't gotten that itch to do it yet!

  • very good break down, i have the Curly Girl Handbook but not Terri Laflesh's book. i have watched videos about her method, but gosh, i don't think i could really do that, takes so much time!! thank you for the synopses! your daughter (?) sounds really cute!

  • @louloumatou Yes, that is my daughter in the background. She never has anything to say until I start filming!

  • @cwwwwj247 I’m new to the tightly curly method, but I’m loving it so far…cheap and not as time consuming as I thought it’d be
