Loss, and the threat of it, is a bitter-sweet catalyst. My parents were in their 90's when I realized I knew them in only one dimension -- as my parents, aka personal maid, chauffeurs, and in the case of my father -- alpha male and mortal enemy. There had to more to them. I drew up 40 questions and asked them - point blank. No waffling. Some were simple, but many of them were questions no one ever asks their parents. What I discovered was two happy people - who liked themselves, they just didn't like each other. But that didn't stop them - they had their moments of doubt and fear, used laughter to get through the bad times, and so much more. Human Happiness is my way of honouring them. It was more than worth the effort - their story helped me find my own.
