  • Tri-Power refers to the fact that the car has 3 carburetors. A car with 2 4-barrel carburetors is often called dual-fours. There are 3 2-barrel carbs on this Galaxie, so most Ford owners call them Tri-Power. Also you may see them designated as 6-V or a 6-barrel engine. Dodge called them a 6-pack on there 440 engines. Thanks for the question.

  • I would still rather have a 63 impala 409! Nice car though!

  • Having owned a 1963 Impala SS 409 and a 1963 1/2 Galaxie 500 427 car, I can tell you this. The Ford was WAY more powerful and faster than the Chevy. However, the Chevy was way nicer to drive and way more dependable. I ending up selling the Ford first because of this. Jim

  • what can i do to build up my 352 motor? w/o getting too crazy? thx

  • The obvious is to start with a 4-barrel intake and carb if you don't already have one. You may want to look into shorty headers also, factory ford ones would be best. Upgrade the points to an electronic ignition, simplest is to use a Pertronix ignitor. New plugs and wires if they are old. Have fun! Jim

  • @mrweide Why are ford factory exhaust headers so expensive? Who is selling a set at a reasonable price?

  • They are expensive...supply and demand I am afraid. However, they are making them NEW now, I believe they sell for around $500 on ebay. You will probably pay that much for a used set anyway, and they are prone to having busted ears. Jim

  • That is better than any sex...

  • we just acquired a 63 406 tri power box top about a year ago.. that 406 is a MONSTER compared to our 390's. I was born a Chevy boy, but thanks to dads inability to stay off ebay, i will die a Ford man. there are now 5 63 gals in the family. 3 converts 390's, 1 2dr HT 390, a 2dr ht we are converting for the 427 SOHC, and a 406 box top.

    enjoy it, beautiful car!

  • In 1966, at age 19, I bought a '57 Ford T-Bird powered by a '62 tri-powered 406/405 Ford. I paid $1,800 for it.
