Forget emo, forget punk, forget [insert genre here]. Fugazi has a genre of its own. Can't say that about too many bands.

It is pretty meaningless though. Fugazi is Fugazi. They don't sound like anybody but Fugazi.

Emo was actually first used to describe "Rites of Spring," the band that Guy was in just before this. Emo, as a well defined subculture and pop-music style, did not exist at the time, but the term was around at that time, and the term was used to refer to music like this; melodic, sincere, post hardcore punk rock.

It's a stupid term that nobody involved with the music used, but still. Saying Fugazi was emo isn't totally wrong.

It seems like every time I watch a Fugazi vid this debate comes up. I see it as just good music - and smart music, with a message.  Punk, emo, rock, who gives a crap. Just listen.

Odd lyrics but truly fucking great song. It has so many varieties of sound in ONE song. Not your average punk anthem
