A 3D scan by www.RewindFX.com for digital double replacement of Steveo from the shoot of 'Canis Belli', a short film being produced by www.ChromeProductions.co.uk with visual effects by Rewind FX.
Directed by Robin Schmidt and Gez Medinger.
General workflow:
Take many many photos, give them to Autodesk 123D Catch, it use voodoo to work out a 3d base mesh, we then use that as a re-projection mesh in Maya/Nuke.
3D set scan coming soon.
does anybody think this program could be utilized for multi camera, face motion capturing that is EXTREMELY realistic?

Also cloud isn't crap... its where autodesk is taking all there simulation and rendering technologies. This is a test app for that process, having a built in renderfarm under your fingertips... :)

for this use of a digital double to fill in a scene shot in similar lighting conditions its a quick fix. For other uses you would need to re topo it (quick to do new edge loopss)
as for lighting... for perfect use yes you would need to re texture. but if you created it with flat soft light it would work for most uses to re-light. Would just be like you had baked in some AO into the textures.

plus it's crap that it's cloud computing only. such an idiotic buzzword thing to do.

it looks better than it is. it's not a perfectly usable mesh. it's a rough mesh where most of the detail and lighting nuances are still photographic.
you can't change the lighting. you can't easily mix it with other scenes.
it's inspiring but yet has rather limited use.
