This was for my animation class, where we focused mostly on animating with After Effects rather than the traditional frame-by-frame.

The synopsis: An opossum plays dead so that he can lure other animals to their deaths purely for his own amusement. But then, he has his own close call with death in the form of a giant SUV. In that moment before he's hit, he imagines himself going to heaven, only to be kicked down to Hell. As he falls towards the flames, he comes back to reality to find that the car has missed him. He's been given a second chance! But when another animal gets run over in front of him, he can't help but still find it hilarious. ...A close call with death doesn't always bring life-changing results.

This story was birthed from the fact that I forgot to think up an idea until the night before... and then pooped one out, and we weren't allowed to change the idea once we picked it. ...Which is why some of the ~deep meanings~ of the film might not make sense.

All the animals were hand-drawn, while the backgrounds and the car were photos (that I took) and altered in photoshop to look more cartoonish. I drew and recolored everything three separate times to give it that shuddering look, which I also did with some of the text.

The music is various bits and pieces of the soundtrack from the television show "Firefly," by Joss Whedon, which was composed by Greg Edmonson- who is credited at the end. The film is dedicated to my cat, Fuzzy, who died a few days before this was completed.

  • @LunarNall Thanks! And yeah, that song from "Out of Gas" just HAD to be used for something like that. Pretty much what inspired me to use the Firefly soundtrack in the first place.

  • Dude, 1:27 is awesomeee. And I was about to comment "Is that Firefly I hear?" until I read the credits :]
