In this video, EcoHeidi Borchers shows how to burn Aleene's Original Tacky Glue to create a look of metal butterfly and box. This vintage technique is a favorite Momma Aleene project and a great way to upcycle brown grocery bags! Featured on EcoHeidi TV.

  • Ugh. It's not upcycling if it's just going to end up in the trash anyway.

  • @applefaerie We love recycling and upcycling and being crafty. It's so cool to give and receive a handmade gift.

  • Thank you, KayAnders! This is one of our favorite techniques!

  • I made a cross from this that looked like metal years ago after seeing this technique on the Aleene craft show. I think that was many years ago maybe in the late 90's. It is a very nice technique, easy, and upcycling.

  • @seven6pro Thank you so much for sharing! We imagine that this technique must look beautiful on your cross!

  • Oooo! Is that a New Frontiers bag? That's a wonderful store. I'm lucky enough to have one in my area. :)

On the actual topic, is the odor of this project bad at all? Very cool project and thank you for posting.

  • @Nekona Yes! We LOVE New Frontiers. Ours is in San Luis Obispo. There is actually not an odor on this project but there is a lot of soot when you are burning so you need to be sure you are in a well ventilated area. Why don't you try a small sample first and see if it is something you want to try!

  • This is fantastic!

  • Instead of using tacky glue, can you use Elmers glue?

  • @halleykat1 We have made all sorts of projects with this technique. She can make the butterfly on a plant stake (just use a wooden skewer) or make a sculpture with several butterflies. Tiffany used this technique to make a grungy shabby chic frame and burned glue rings and lots more! Just go to our website and enter burnt brown bag in the search.
