  • They didn't have any pollution crap on them when they were first exported and according to Jeremy Clarkson, they still wouldn't hit 150. "They lied," he said on Top Gear. A D Jag ran in the first SCCA regional race I ever saw. Impressive in losing to a Shelby 350GT.

  • @Schlipperschlopper Ja, danke. Haben wir heir das "Marvel Mystery Oil". Bist same.

  • @34D2234 I am willing to believe 225 KILOMETERS per hour; that's only abt 140mph. The only way your brothers EType did 225 mph was over a very high cliff.

  • 34D2234 Pretty wild statement that it went to 225 mph. The English ones had a top speed of 150 mph and the ones exported to USA only went to 125 mph owing to the fact that the states insisted on so much anti pollution crap fitted to them which knocked the performance so Jaguar fitted a lower ratio diff to the USA ones which made them just as quick off the line but knocked 25 mph off the top speed.

  • Sorry...225 MPH isn't a possible speed for even the hottest non-turboed 6 cylinder setup and a great deal of aerodynamic mods. Much as I love these cars, and having owned one for 40+ years, it's these kind of blowy stories that drive me NUTS!

Also if it "always overheated" something was wrong because done right, they will drive just fine in all but the VERY hottest conditions.

  • three webber setup is what they used in the 60 D jags., my brother had a black 1961 jag fastback, had the le manns 4.2l D twincam inline six with webbers and his had four pipes in the back.. thing was quick too, he bought it fome a dealer in New York in 1967 the dealer told him if he cant breakthe speedometer to bring it back and he'll swap him out one that will. it went to 225mph. he kept it till 1973 and sold it for 5 grand. couldnt drive it under 40mph, always overheated..
