Volvo XC90 V8 Ocean Race 2006 Transmission Failure

Transmission slipping out of gear on 6% grade. Recurred regularly enough that I was able to predict and film it. This one was on Rabbit Ears pass, Colorado. July 26, 2011.

Before the dealer saw this video, they couldn't replicate the problem because they just took it on flat short drives around their neighborhood. They tried updating the software twice without success. After seeing this video they replaced the entire transmission. VolvoUSA grudgingly took 25% off the price of a the tranny since the problem didn't start til 90K miles, but it was still a fortune to fix. Now working great...so far!

this happened exactly to my aunts xc90. she just got the car and after a few months it started doing this. Her husband finally said, "no more volvos!' (after owning 3 and having problems). They currently own a toyota sequoia, with no problems. I own a 2000 volvo s80, and have never had transmission problems though..

Beware.... These vehicles have alot of tranny problems especially the XC90 T6. The XC90 T5 (5 Cylinder) to my knowledge don't have transmission problems.

I have an '05 V8 and having the identical problem. Have you found any solutions or any answers from you dealer? It seems to happen when the trans gets hot (stop and go traffic and or lots of climbing). have you flushed the trans? tried anything?
