This short film from 2003 shows how the PNE Group (formerly known as Project North East) redeveloped a rundown part of Newcastle city centre into a vibrant centre for IT, multimedia and marketing companies with clients across the world. Many of these companies have since grown into hugely successful, award-winning businesses in their own right who have continued to work with PNE over the years. See if you can recognise the faces!

[Original Description] 'Silicon Alley' got it's name from the number of information and communications technology related businesses based in the 'urban televillage' created by Project North East's redevelopment of a group of buildings in Newcastle's Pink Lane and Westgate Road area.

The once rundown area became home to a thriving business community including numerous creative and multimedia firms. These were able to serve a global marketplace from the North East thanks to Silicon Alley's well established network infrastructure known as 'Big Netty' which offered pioneering high speed internet.
