@theignoredgender .. One big problem, especially in America, is that when people ask about your job they're often mostly interested in assessing your socio-economic status ... which makes them 'something for which I know no polite name' (well, maybe 'mercenary' is polite enough).
I generally recommend topics of the news and civic reform ... it reflects 'core values' and potentially offers the chance they'll pitch-in with you on a good cause if they're 'the right sort'.

Cuts a little too close to home. I think these thoughts all the time when I'm with a group of people. I really think I'd much rather be myself though, rather than end up like the 'people person' in the related videos.

I love my job. The reason I don't want to talk about it is because it always comes up in conversation. It gets monotonous (and very annoying) to always have that come up as a subject whenever someone starts talking to me, plus there really isn't anything interesting I can say about it other than "good".

@theignoredgender I'm sorry you hate your job. To many people, their job defines them. Because they love what they do, and assume that others love what they do, or they would find something else to do... just my thoughts

I can never chime in when the subject of conversation is sports or a show on TV that I never watch, or something else that doesn't interest me. But when someone actually talks to me, they ALWAYS say "so how's work?"..that's the last thing I want to talk about. First of all, there's nothing interesting to say so I'm just like "good" second of all, I don't need to reminded of work when I don't need to be. It's like they think there's nothing more to me other than my job.

There's always a few people having their own conversation and then everyone else is having theirs and I'm like "okay...when did everyone split up? And which 'team' am I on?" Either way, they're talking about crap that I have 0 interest in. And if I were to say what was really on my mind (which would make the convo really interesting), it would probably start something awkward, so I just have to sit there not saying anything counting down the minutes until it's time to go.

He's saying all the things I'm thinking when I'm with a group of people.
