It was his game. There's no one way to run D&D; that's why it's so great. His way was psychological horror; agree with it or not, it was obviously effective.

I can't believe her parents wouldn't let her do alleged "boy stuff." That's a horrible violation of rights!!!! Anyway, I do find it interesting that she says girls might be more hesitant to play because of the social exceptance issue. I never thought of that when I started playing, I just thought it was fun!! And I have only ever found the same level of acceptance in one other peer group, I have to say. Currently, I think d&d is the best part of my life.

@SPENCERandLEE That sounds frickin awesome! Ours is a sort-of Holy War between Orcus Demon Prince of the Undead, and a homebrew Demon Prince. Also there's a pretty interesting side-plot regarding a "Sentient God Virus" which is altering the beasts, vermin and some tribes of monstrous humanoids into mindless killing machines.
