At the time this video was made, the Grove was the largest Aritifical reef in the world. Located in Key Largo, Fl, It is now the second largest artificial reef. The Oriskany is the largest. Ships are sunk to make artificial reefs. This is a great scuba diving trip.

...I would have to find the original video and then change it, upload it etc. It would not be hard, but I am not sure where the original video is right now.

The Oriskany is now the largest reef, off Pensacola, Fl. I served on her in 1974 to 1976.

I remember the SPIEGEL GROVE alongside the HERMITAGE and SPARTANBURG COUNTY around 1980 at Little Creek. HERMITAGE (also THOMASTON class) still serves in the Brazilian navy. These ships were hard to navigate in full daylight, I can imagine that they are a very risky dive. IMO, we are sinking far too many ships, while these are very OLD, some we are sinking have fewer than 20 years on their hull and are quite modern.

Just goes to prove we don't need them and can get by without them.

The stern of the Spiegel somehow sank before they wanted it to, so the bow was still above water. Then when they "blew" the charges and it did sink it came to rest on it's side -- and not upright like they wanted it to. About a year later some wave action from a hurricane some distance away actually tipped it upright -- so Mother Nature fixed it! My daughter lives in Key Largo and is a mate on a diving boat. If you do a Google on the Spiegel Grove it's pretty interesting.....

I dove the Grove off of Key Largo this past summer!!! It was a great dive, but had some current. If you really want to view her well, you will need to make multiple dives.
