C# interfacing with Arduino to read/write data through USB serial port

hello i am doing a similar project in c#. i am using a wiimote to control a robotic arm and i have my code working in c# and im new to c# this is my first time using this tool. I am trying to send my data from c# to the microcontroller over a uart interface but before i do that i want to see the data over a serial terminal. how do i go about that and how did u use the serial port to send data to the arduino.

:) u know what..i'm sure there is an easy way to light LEDs but the purpose of the project is to show how to read and write commands to a peripheral using C# GUI and a microcontroller...this can be expanded to anything reallly!!
