HAving exactly the same problem, out of the box.
It starts afters some time though, when I hold in in my hands an keep the throttle up.

maybe the tail motor wires that connect to the RX are loose?

@speedstakerguy Looked into that. Bought another exact heli to strip parts. Not speed controller or tail motor so u are probably right. I am pretty much done with walkera heli's. Lama 2-1 burns out motors after a few flights, 4#6 great heli but for the terrible TB effect I cannot fix. The E-Flight blade msr is the only micro I have that flies great. Nice and reliable.

Would you recommend the 4#6? I'm thinking of buying it but I heard the tail gears strip out easily in crashes..

@speedstakerguy It is a well built heli, but all i can do is hover mine because of TB effect. Have had a couple of light crashes, new blades and canopy damage. It is quite a difficult helicopter to fly, very fast but unstable even when trimmed. Make sure you have a large area before flying it. Good luck.

Make sure the trim is set to 0 for the throttle

@MrTaphonomy - Yup always do that before any first flight.
