  • even if you don't explain all of the details, just seeing two experienced folks play through 10 minutes of the game might be enlightening. i enjoyed your discussion at the end of the video much more than simply showing dice and chits and whatever in the early portion and previous episode. i've enjoyed your war game vids and look forward to seeing more details of various games to get more of a flavor than your summary level mentions that have been more prevalent lately. thanks!

  • I'd love to see a series of videos that deal with the general rules of the game and stuff. Maybe break it down into 3 videoes that cover basics, intermediate, and advanced gameplay? I've always been curious how ASL is played and your glowing review has made me want to learn about it even more. So come on! Let's see the vids! (Oh, and have your wife in them more! The back and forth you guys have is much fun!)

  • Sounds bit like old Battletech. Tons of expansions and rules for just about everykind of possible event and interaction one could imagine in Battletech universe. Most of these were optional and slowed down already a slow game but somehow they make the game much more alive.

  • @CelluloidHumanoid you need to read chapter K

  • He´s right. ASL is so detailed that playing other wargames after playing ASL may turn into a very bored work...

  • So I am trying to make sense of the Defensive Fire rules. I am reading through the ASL rules for Starter Kit #1, and everything seems to make sense to this point. Is there anyone out there that could do a video explaining this portion of the rules? Thanks!

  • Thanks Joe for these very helpful videos! I hope to see more!

Any experienced players out there in Southern California?

  • I agree with Joe Steadman , ASL is also by far and away my favourite 2 player game. Best way to learn the game is to find an experianced player , i find it only takes 30 minutes to explain the basics to a player and dive into a 1st scenario. Failing that , the ASL starter kit is great, it's very cheap, compared to the ASL rulebook and 1st module (Beyond Valour) and gives a good flavour of the full rules.

  • My first exposure to Squad Leader was in 1979, and I have been playing it ever since. One of these days I'm going to throw down some coin and go ASL.

  • hullo joe

i dont know ifn it might be any use for you but i have seen a thing that might be useful for schecking line of sight (thoguh can not point you at any sights that sell the thing GRR) its a laser sight thing for checking teh straightness or smoothness of a surface, basically instead of a spot at the target point it shows a visible beam. i figure this might be good as it wouldtn actually touch any bits

thanks for the video of a game you so obviously love
