  • Then do it!!! WE need great neurosurgeons-you can change people’s lives.

  • It depends on what type of tumor it is and where it is located-there are many serious brain tumors that are not cancer but they can cause horrible problems. But there are some tumors that are cancerous but they can be treated and the patient can go into remission. Most important is a proper evaluation, get more than 1 opinion. Get an opinion from a high volume neurosurgeon. Dr. Daniel Kelly is doing often times 10 surgeries a week. Many surgeons only do 2 surgeries a month. Experience matters.

  • There are usually no side effects from surgery, if the neurosurgeon is experienced with this type of surgery. The effects from the tumor can vary widely. Different tumors in difference stages cause a wide range of problems, many getting better after surgery. An early diagnosis is of course always best and usually results in a full recovery. Much depends on the type of tumor and how experienced the surgeon is.

  • This is a supras-orbital approach, a small incision along the eyebrow line usally. Minimal, you often can't see it once the eyebrow has grown back. For many tumors there is no visual incisions, Dr. Kelly goes through a nostril. There is a lot of this information on the Brain Tumor Center in Santa Monica, CA website.

  • Craniopharyngiomas are benign brain tumors that arise near the pituitary gland and pituitary stalk and are typically both cystic and solid in structure. They occur most commonly in childhood and adolescence and in later adult life, after age 50.

  • except removing tumor from the brain do we have other type of neurosurgeries?

  • @zagros24

Yes, there is skull base surgery, pituitary surgery, spine surgery and they all fall under neurosurgery.

  • Plastic surgery seems so, so, so simple compared to this. I kind of want to be a plastic surgeon but I think it will be too simple for me, that it will become boring.

  • if you want to be a neurosurgeon, then your better graduate with AOA and strive for a 250+ on the usmle step 1,if not, then your chances of matching into a neurosurgical residency are near impossible. most of you will probably change your minds throughout med school.the 7 year residency is brutal, not to mention that the reimbursement rates are declining fast so be prepared, cuz youre going to be bent over by the gov BIG TIME.keep an open mind guys, there are plenty excellent fields in medicine

  • @Sharmyn411 Sooo i'm 18 and I want to be a neurosurgeon as well. Hoping to attend Stanford Medical. I don't know much about it though, can anyone give me tips or any advice?

I'd like to do something worthwhile with my life instead of watch everyone be motionless zombies. I'd rather save lives.
