This is the un edited view through the cab on my 5 inch gauge Baldwin live steam locomotive taken while driving at Winter Creek Railway in New Zealand on Sat 03 07 10.
http://www.wintercreek.net.nz
It is not a full circuit of the track. Start at Winter Creek junction, left fork through the cutting, over bridge 5 then pine tree cutting and bridge 6. Back and through Winter Creek junction and up the bank to bridge 4. Around the horseshoe curve and through the tunnel. Up big bank to the top junction and the left loop up to the summit and the beginning of the big wooden curved trestle. Sadly I had to stop at this point. Enjoy.

  • @baldwinlocomotive i model in HO scale i have a couple of videos of my layout on my channel but the layout is under construction at the moment

  • @baldwinlocomotive well i found a live steam club not to far away from where i live so i might go check it out this summer sometime.

  • @AndrewandMattsVideos Hi again, what city are you located in?

Let me know and I will find the nearest live steam track to your location.

    Steve

  • Yes, I have looked at the link, and can only envy you lol. In the sand hills, of NC, we don't have anything like this. I wish we did, so I could possibly get into the hobby, also if I could afford it.

  • @AndrewandMattsVideos You will be surprised at how many tracks there are around the world. What scale / gauge do you model in? I have HOn3, HO and O

Try to check on the internet or ask at the local library or council office. Did you look at the Winter Creek web site? I put the wrong link info up but have corrected it now.

  • @baldwinlocomotive there is a little one for model trains ( HO, N, O, scale etc.) but i dont think there is one for this kind of scale trains.

  • @AndrewandMattsVideos Have you looked in your area to see if there is a train club.

  • @AndrewandMattsVideos Hey it is a lot of fun. can be a lot of work too. Steam locos get dirty and I spent a while cleaning it....You have to know what you are doing though to drive one. Especially a big engine like this.

  • @Enginer12 Thanks for the compliment. It is a great engine to drive.

I was running with a light load on that trip so I left the valve gear on full cutoff and used the throttle only.

The grade is 1 in 40 from the small wooden trestle up to the top of the hill just before I stopped. There is an up grade from the junction as well but that is around 1 in 50 Total climb is about 7 meters (23 feet) as an estimate we have not measured it accuratly yet.

Have you looked at the Winter Creek link yet?

  • Lovely little locomotive. When running your engine, do you adjust the cutoff, or do you keep it constant?
