On Oct. 6, 2010 a brave wild stallion, his mare and their child were rounded up by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in the Silver King Herd Management Area in Nevada. The stallion, Braveheart, attempting to protect his mare and secure his freedom, charged the trap pen fence and broke his neck. He slowly died while his mare and child watched.

  • patcuvie, may I ask, what happened/happens to that foal that was left behind? I wish there was a way to email you.

  • @Shyblues - the foal and his mother were rescued from the BLM and will be going to a sanctuary.

  • @FMNelly If you were to take a wild foal and raise it from birth by humans would that horse grow up and act like any sane riding horse? Yes, Same goes for stay puppies and kittens. They are gentically the same as their domesticated couterpart, just born in a different place. There is no reason for them to be wild when they can be loved and cared for by people like they were originaly bred to be.

  • @FMNelly Yep they are born wild. Now how well they have survived is up for debate. I have seen foals laying in mud with broken legs. bloated bodies in feilds and half starved herds all in plane view from my car. They are wild feral animals never meant too be free from human care. cows on the other hand are owned, cared for, mantained and slaughtered by people. They have nothing to do with the mustangs.

  • Mother, father and child... Really? Why do you humanize wild animals? It is not gain for the contractors, it's expense to the BLM, a governmant agency. Government = The People = every tax payer.. with over 40,000 mustangs in long term holding that can't find a home, need I say more?

  • @NicJamesHunter hundreds of years isn't very long when talking about the length of time a speices has lived in one place. Mustangs aren't natural. They are feral domesticated horses. Millions of years of evolution didn't shape them into equines build to live in north america. People bred them like that. Its like say let all the stray dogs be, because they BELONG living in the streets.

  • @erintubb Cool, thanks for telling me :)

  • @IRaceBarrels Just so you know, they did pass a law back in the 50's or so forbidding rounding up wild horses strictly for slaughter. Nowdays the horses that get rounded up are offered to the public for adoption, and the one that have been offered three times without getting adopted are usually slaughtered. That practice had stopped for a short time with the closing of the slaughterhouses, but now that they will be opening again, the horses will once again be slaughtered.

  • this is wrong very wrong !stop hurting the wild horses it insane it sick it very cruel!~please stop this kind of abuse !`

  • @kittyslider The People Make THe Fences See Through So The Horse Can See Outside ! That Makes Them Think They Can Get Out !

  • It is wrong. These mustangs BELONG there, they should remain wild and free and nature should be allowed to run its course in terms of overpopulation. But no, the greedy humans think we know whats best, we think we have some right to dictate what happens to every other species on this planet. I would gladly sabotage every one of those helicopters if i could.
