Roselande Cherilus recalls the four consecutive killer storms that ravaged Haiti in 2008.
"The river just kept rising and rising. Eventually it rose so high that it swept away our house and everyone else's here."
"The Red Cross is building a new house for us so we can move from here," she says, hopefully.
"The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has taken a lot of care deciding where to build new homes as they want to be sure that they are in safe areas," adds Kerlande Michel, a Haitian Red Cross volunteer.
All over the world, the Red Cross Red Crescent works with communities and local authorities to develop hazard maps to identify risk and develops mitigation plans to cope with disasters. This reduces the vulnerability of communities.
