the key cylinder pins are worn & stuck making it hard to turn then u set them when u pull out the key making it possible to turn the cylinder without the key..instead of trying to turn the key cylinder just wiggle the key and then turn the cylinder the key will stay in..the ignition system doesn't need the key once the signal is sent to the computer recognizing the key..DO NOT FORCE THE KEY U R GONNA BREAK THE PINS OR THE KEY !!

For those who have had this problem, it's NOT the key. It's your ignition/starter switch. I had a 1999 Silverado do this...you're lucky if it "springs" back after starting...mine stayed engaged

thats what happens to alot of gm trucks my step dad has a chevy tahoe and it does the same and my cousin has a gmc yukon and it does the same to try moving just the key instead
