HIGH QUALITY AVAILABLE - though compressed. A tribute to one of my all-time favourite albums. This sounds as fresh, innovative and confronting now as when it was recorded, 30 years ago.

Red Noise - as a concept - was born during the last Be Bop Deluxe album, 'Drastic Plastic'. That was a more abrasive album than its lush predecessors - perhaps due to Bill's father dying during it's long recording sessions in France.

In any event, you can take half of that album, then all of this one, and Bill's 'Quit Dreaming...' solo album - and it forms a consistent (and satisfying) whole.

And don't forget my other Bill-related clips. For the video-work here, I just plundered the raw footage from an old YouTube of mine - 'Time Paradox'
(though the "paradox" is clearer this time around).

  • This is a huge public service. "Sound on Sound" was a work of genius, completely groundbreaking, and one of the most unappreciated rock records of all time. For Bill to have gone from BBD to this shows the depth of his artistry. This video should have 1,000X as many views as it has. Definitely gets better as it goes along, and some of the syncing is perfect. Love the ending!

  • This album was a work of genius.

State of the art new wave in 1979.

It still sounds so new to me to this day.

  • "For Young Moderns" and Furniture Music", were such amazing pieces.

Probably my problem, but I found the rest of Bill's electronic 'punk',a bit harsh on the ears.

Could use a good remaster though. These tracks have too much middle, and almost no bass.Which can be remedied somewhat by this ◣◢ equalizer setting.

  • Fantastic stuff, thanks for bringing this brilliant album back to my attention, must dig it out

  • Best thing bill ever did. A classic album is when every track is good and can stand alone....this is the one!

  • The story tells that Bill only sell around 10.000 of Sound on Sound only. If every one on this world have one, we don't have any war these days....

  • @avs002

Superb Nelsonica he will one day be remembered as the musical genius artist poet like his own hero Jean Coctuea can't thank you enough for the whole thing.

Quit dreaming and get on the beam

  • This album blew me away in 1979. And it still blows me away today. To bad Nelson retreated into his basement for the last 25 years to tinker with self-indulgent music.
