Made by Film Australia 1975. Directed by Barry Williams. From the Viewpoint series. The city of Hobart, Tasmania, as seen through the eyes of European migrants. People see cities with different eyes. While most cities in the world have big buildings and lots of people there are many facets of city life that may appeal or be repellents - especially to the newcomer. This series of films on Australian capital cities presents the views of migrants who have settled down to live in them. What they see and what they say about Australia's main cities is of interest and value to both the native born city dweller and to the intending migrant.

  • This is a fabulous insight into life in the past - fairly recent (1975), but still changed a lot. Does anyone know what the other films in the Viewpoint series were please? If they are as good as this they might be worth seeking out! I recognised an old friend in this, now sadly passed away - she would have loved it!

  • @RobynLewis1 Hi Robyn originally there were going to be 14 Viewpoint episodes but only 6 were eventually made. Sydney / Perth / Adelaide / Brisbane / Hobart and Another Viewpoint on migration generally. We will be posting a Life in Australia: Hobart soon though.

  • Black cab @ 5:15. xy fairmont?

  • I hardly recognised Salamanca place! On the other hand, the Richmond bridge looks exactly the same

  • Hobart is the capital city. Beautiful place. I was there on the weekend from Victoria on the mainland.

  • Thanks for posting. Very interesting.

  • Amazing, thanks so much for posting! Quite incredible how little has changed.

  • @3:27 : My house is on the left (can just be seen). The blokes house looks nothing like it, prefer this Tassie to what it is now tbh.
