Most excellent - it's like the Stones and the Who pretended to be tough - while the Kinks really were - it cost them but they wouldn't have done it any other way.

Myself and my friends had been waiting for them to come to the hotel in NYC. We got the news they had been banned and wouldn't be appearing. The word on the street back then was one of them was caught with a bit of marijuana while boarding a plane in Germany and the US immediately banned them from coming here.
I'm not saying it was true, it was just the rumor floating around. I can remember it to this day because I was HUGELY disappointed. Never did get to talk to them or see them live. :(

Thanks for posting! I'd read about the Cardiff incident in "The Kinks - A Very English Band" by Neville Marten & Jeff Hudson. Fascinating stories of the colorful history of the Kinks - highly recommended, very entertaining!
