Why let then get close enough. Turn around and walk, if they chase you, then you are running from potential muggers, not police. I love doing U-turns at checkpoints, I don't break the law, and they hate it when they chase me and I refuse to show ID. Not at the checkpoint where some rouge judge says they can search because everyone is searched.
