Rare film of Elgar talking and then conducting the trio of his Pomp and Circumstance March no.1 at the opening of EMI's Abbey Road studios in London on 12 November 1931.
Elgar's words to the orchestra before he begins conducting are as follows: "Morning, gentlemen. Glad to see you all. Very light programme this morning. Please play this tune as though you've never heard it before."

My comment was in response to your comment on Elgar's conducting. And bugger the European Union and bugger Harold Macmillan for demolishing the Empire. There would be no Robert Mugabe but more importantly none of his victims.
One of your hobbies is social engineering is it ? Wouldn't it be social engineering spotting as in train spotting ? May I suggest that if you are passing a good university, pop in and check out a paper in the journal TOTALITARIAN MOVEMENTS AND POLITICAL RELIGIONS and consult Vol. 5, No. 3, Winter 2004, pp. 291-325 ; the article 'Introduction : God's Counterfeiters ? Investigating the Triad of Fascism, Totalitarianism and (Political) Religion. Best of British to you and your hobbies.
Thats the first intelligent response i've had on YouTube. So, thanks for the heads up, and, seeing as you dont seem to be the usual type of person i meet who expresses himself solely with a combination of expletives and rhetoric, ill definitely check out that paper. Should be on informaworld with a bit of luck........ Peace out
Thanks for posting this - very interesting rare piece of film and supposedly the only film of Elgar talking, conducting with audio. Interesting to note that he seemed to have a rather basic conducting style...
