  • There is nothing like an italian opera sung by italian singers. They have warm and perfect diction.

Their voices are so rich and powerful.

  • What a great voice. Tebaldi and Bechi are fabulous.

    Thank you for posting this.

  • Afro Poli was the a great performer on stage was so very humble in his life. I was lucky to see both he and his wife (Gloria Cervie also known by her real name of Cavell nee Armstrong Poil) on stage they were brilliant. They were both teachers later in life and were very well known in Australia where they both lived. Afro Poli died 1988 his wife lived until 2010. They are both singing and teaching together again in another world.

    Eliana Afra (Poli) Darmanin.

  • I see that I have this film in my NetFlix DVD queue. Maybe I'll post a couple other excerpts. I saw it in a movie theater many years ago. I did hear Giuseppi Campora live once. Alas he was terrible. He had completely lost his voice. Even in his prime this wouldn't have been his role. All the others in the cast are top shelf. I think I'll post some of Cassinelli - the Ramfis. An interesting bass.

  • @monpitt500

Nope. First of all I'm too young. Bechi quit the stage before I was old enough to attend opera. Secondly he almost only sang in Italy. He was retired in Siena I read in Wikipedia when I was there on vacation in the sixties. Otherwise our paths didn't cross. A Bechi witness would need to be about 80 today.

  • @Agorante Did you ever heard Bechi live?

  • Afro Poli subbed for a lot of baritones and tenors on screen. For my money Poli was always better than Bechi and better than Guelfi in some roles.

  • Wonderful! Where is the rest of this film? Who plays Radames?

  • God, Bechi is incredible..

  • la tebaldi è stupenda!!!

  • Why didn't Bechi play the role himself? He had all the required presence, and no particular acting skills are needed here. I guess it was some compromise.

  • Bechi was great but why didn't Afro Poli sing it himself? He was a fantastic

italian baritone.I have a recording were he's singing Tonio which sounds just incredible.
