  • right right..there is a fine line between reality and the world of racial prejudice. If people dont think realisticly then they will go crazy I think that is the problem most mulattos have...they get pulled between the 2 worlds

  • especially if the father is white. the biracials who identified as black (even with hatred from black women and or men) tended to always have a black father.

  • I disagree with the "black experience" of being automatically labeled as a deviant....it depends on the look...a clean cut abercrombie and fitch, khaki short, sandals wearing black guy is looked on and treated differently than a black guy wearing baggy jeans and a hoodie with economic status being equal.

  • u sure because that is how i dress from time to time and i still get the "look" because i am dark skin with short hair. as far as hip hop dress - there are white boys and asian that pretty much dress black and have tattos but get no ill treatment what so ever. it does not matter what u are wearing. look at mr henry louis gates.

I agree. Back then everybody knew that whites were clearly wrong in how they treated blacks. Why? because there wasn't any of the thug culture, anti education and backwards mentality that exists today. Unfortunately blacks who are positive are having to pay for the acts of others. If the civil rights movement happened with todays blacks it would have failed because there's a perception that blacks aren't trying better their situation. Help only comes to those who help themselves.

  • Lets take Asians for example. In early America they was stereotyped as being ugly, goofy, barbaric, and cannibals. However, over they years, thanks to their actions, they're now seen as very smart, dependable, honorable. The women are seen as very attractive and feminine, and plenty of WM try to get with one. Of course, this isn't all true, but they controlled their image. However, a lot of Asian have serous self-hate issues, and a lot are very racist themselves.

  • I can totally relate to the "prove yourself" part of this. In school, I always had to prove myself for two big reasons: one, because I was a black student--it got to the point where I felt like I had to try to get straight one hundred scores whenever I could pull it off; and two, because I was a light-skinned black student and I didn't want anyone, white or black, to say that I had coasted on skin color.

  • My hubby and I were in a store walking around and of course the woman didn't realize we were together. He is white I am black, anyways we go our seperate ways planning to meet up later. Well the woman starts following me and keeping her eye on me, I didn't notice at first but it was evident after I seen her peeking at me not once greeting me. My hubby meets me and holds me hand, oddly enough she was no where in sight after seeing I'm with this white man and no longer a threat...smh.

  • Unfortunately this is so true!!!

  • This video misses the mark entirely.Yes, there are cultural differences to how one is raised, although class does have a lot to do with it.

  • @mpenny226

and you can thank quotas and affirmative action for that

  • In my opinin cultural variation is the biggest difference between white and black families that mirror one another in other factors...Nice video!;)

  • it was a middle class area not upper class.

  • @etemuru -- Like I said thanks but no thanks. I've listened to some of Tim Wise like "white like me" etc. and like I said some of it is good. but I am black so I live all sides of the argument and i'd rather focus on action. No saying you don't but I see enough rehashing injustices and not enough action. Racists and biases will always be set against us since we are minorities but alot of our problems are self-inflicted.
