What does a natural disaster sound like? Special effects used to compress time on audio track.

I placed a microphone outside during the ice storm of 2009 and collected 6 hours of the sound of this natural disaster while it was in progress. Transformer explosions, tree limbs crashing and the sound of ice cracking during the late night storm are captured here. I have compressed these 6 hours down to 120 seconds and included then in this video. Storm conditions eventually shut down my electrial power along with a half million other families in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Do you have a story to tell about Ice Storm 2009? Add your video file, blog or text comment and tell us where you were the night the lights went out in Kentucky.

  • You did a Great Job on this!!! Sorry for what you are going though!!*****Duke

  • Hey thanks Texas. We've thawed out and most people have their power back. Weather issues this week include tornado warnings only a week later.

    Heh, Kentucky is like that.

  • Thats pretty interesting

  • Thanks. That huge crash at the end was yet another falling branch onto my roof top. It was pretty scary. My dog and I dashed to hide under the furniture a few times.

  • that's the sound of my bones when I will be 60 years old

  • nice job

  • nice report very intriguing

  • good job on the ice storm coverage

  • I was outside on the porch listening to the chaos when the power went out...lasted for 11 days, Iced in for three.

Although you suffered the ice storm much worse than we in Arkansas, it was scarey and surreal listening to the huge branches cracking and falling on houses and cars. I hope KY recovers from this disaster soon. 8) Great reporting.

  • GREAT REPORTING!!!!
