socialism won't work nor will true libertarianism; we need something in between or something completely new.. dude he is a human being so I won't put it against him we humans are like that we are less likely to help a group rather than a particular individual its weird but true and it's also understandable in evolutionary terms, but it is still difficult for humans to go and advocate a change to a system that will bring a net loss to them. and I agree that statement is conditional. but still...

Socialism and communism are beautiful systems, in theory. But due to human nature, they will never work in practise, as scum always rises to the top. However, if O'Donnell really believes in socialism, he could start by redistributing his OWN wealth to the poor and live modestly himself. The fact that he doesn't says it all.

He could survive like Séamas Ó Conghaile, a true socialist who practised what he preached. I might disagree with Ó Conghaile's politics, but I can respect that, unlike O'Donnell, he lived under a capitalist system but didn't use it to his advantage and then whinge about it.
