The Dovells Bio website:
http://www.thedovells.com/biography.html

The Dovells were an American music group, formed at Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1957, under the name 'The Brooktones'. The members were Arnie Silver, Mark Gordesky, Len Borisoff, Jerry Gross, Mike Freda and Jim Mealey. Their first single was "No, No, No", which was a minor local hit for The Brooktones, who soon broke up. Summers and Dennis left the group, forming The Gems with Mark Stevens and Alan Horowitz in 1960; while the remaining Brooktones signed to the Chancellor record label and added Jerry Serlen and William Shunkwiler to the group, while changing the name to The Dovells.

Their first hit was "Bristol Stomp", a dance song followed by the similar hit "Do the New Continental". "Bristol Stomp" sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc. They appeared performing both songs in the Chubby Checker movie Don't Knock The Twist in 1961. They released a series of singles over the next few years. These included "You Can't Sit Down", a #3 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1963. Len Borisoff left in 1965 for a solo career under the name Len Barry. The high point of his solo career was "1-2-3" in 1965.

The Dovells continued as a trio, and recorded as The Magistrates for MGM in 1968.

Artist - The Dovells
Song - Bristol Stomp
(Lyrics)

The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol
When they do the Bristol Stomp
Really somethin when they join in jumpin
When they do the Bristol Stomp

Whoa, whoa they start spinnin every Friday night
They dance the greatest and they do it right
Well, it's the latest it's the greatest sight to see

The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol
(Whoa, oh, oh)
When they do the Bristol Stomp
(Whoa, oh, oh)
Really somethin when they join in jumpin
(Ah-ah-ah, whoa)
When they do the Bristol Stomp

Whoa, whoa it started in Bristol at a dee jay hop
They hollered and whistled never wanted to stop
We pony and twisted and we rocked with Daddy G

The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol
When they do the Bristol Stomp
(Whoa, oh, oh)
Really somethin when they join in jumpin
(Ah-ah-ah)
When they do the Bristol Stomp

(Duh-duh-doo)
It's got that groovy beat
That makes you stomp your feet
Come along and try
Gonna feel fine
And once you dance with me
You'll fall in love you see
The Bristol Stomp will make you mine
All mine

The stars are spinnin every Friday night
They dance the greatest if they do it right
But it's the latest it's the greatest sight to see

The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol
When they do the Bristol Stomp
(Whoa, oh, oh)
Really somethin when they join in jumpin
When they do the Bristol Stomp

It started in Bristol at a dee jay hop
They hollered and whistled
Never wanted to stop
We pony and twisted
And we rocked with Daddy G

The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol
When they do the Bristol Stomp
(Whoa)
Really somethin when they join in jumpin
(Ah-ah-ah)
When they do the Bristol Stomp

Feel so fine
Oh, got to say, please, mine
I'm talkin (when they do the Bristol Stomp)
Mine baby (kids in Bristol...)

Isn't this the same "Dovells" that did the "Robins 8th and Walnut" commercials on Philadelphia TV stations in the 1980's?

    Yes..This is quote from Philly.com.

"It was a true Philadelphia crowd, I know this because they loved it when they heard The Dovells sing the "Robbins 8th and Walnut commercia".This is what I'll remember about Yo! Philadelphia.

So, here I am. Early, very early, in the morning and I'm walking guard duty in a unholy, incredibly itchy woolen uniform in Fort Knox. Whom to I run into doing the same thing? One of the Dovels. Nothing like Uncle Sam to make us all equal - NOT a bad thing. He went on in life to be successful in real estate. I went on to be rather succsssful in TV News. The point? Nothing. When the curtain opens go for it.

This single didn't crack the Hot 100, though it did receive regional air play and made several local charts.Realizing this instrumental's potential, Guida had Gary U.S. Bonds — sing the vocal known as “Quarter to Three” over an instrumental track nearly identical to the Church Street Five's “A Night with Daddy G.”Again, as on the Church Street Five recording, Gene Barge provides the tenor sax. “Quarter to 3 is “A Night with Daddy G” with lyrics.

I was born in 1953 in Philly! Before American Bandstand went to California, I remember watching my older sis and future brother in law dance on the show when it was local! Im so very proud to have been a part of music history! I am a professional entertainer so it rubbed off on me! Frank Stallone and I talked about it in Branson MO when we worked there in 2005! Stay Happy and Healthy everyone!
