Before you comment on this video, PLEASE realize that I'm joking when I call this a gallop. I really DO know the difference between a gallop and a canter. I only called this a gallop because this mare simply does not go any faster in an arena - it does not matter how large it is. She just HATES to do anything in any arena. She is strictly a trail (and parade) horse.

  • @noddingacres It's unfortunate that more people don't canter their walking horses. I worry about the breed becoming a two-gait breed.

  • @TorriHerHorse Yes, people show TWH, but unfortunately, there is a lot of abuse that goes on in the traditional show world. Their gait is completely from a trot, and some walking horses are more on the the pacey side when they try to canter (pace= legs on the same side move together). The running walk is generally halfway between a pace and a trot and is amazing to ride. This mare finally figured out she could gallop when I was riding with some other people, but she doesn't canter well.

  • @MagicTomo She trots only on rare occasions. Some people think gaited horses look lame, but that's usually not the case.

  • @Horses4Ever950 Kind of.

  • @phatponies They are called Walking Horse because of their running walk, a smooth intermediate gait.

  • @breydonsilver Yes, she was mine. Since then I had to retire her prematurely and gave her to someone else who would keep her as a pasture pet.

  • @purplejumpergirl So a horse is only pretty if it also has good conformation and movement? I do agree that those things are important, but some horses just are pretty even if they aren't good for anything else. This mare was an awesome trail horse, by the way, but had to be retired prematurely.

  • @moodysoup Actually, many do canter and gallop just fine. My other walking horse has an awesome canter and a fast gallop.

  • @battousaiblade She was an awesome trail horse before I had to retire her!

  • @crosstracks4life Naw - my other gaited horse can keep up with stock horses.
