On Metroid2002 this is known as the "light show" and there are many ways to trigger it apparently. I myself found an instance of it on Norion by unmorphing in just the wrong way while shooting out of a morph ball tunnel where you can find one of the first missile packs.

no dude, this is at the VERY BEGINNING, when you want to meet the Admiral guy in the Briefing Room! His door is sealed SHUT because of this fucking glitch!

It's just a bad copy... you have more chances of getting a bad one when it comes from somewhere else than the actual company. Unless you're just missing something here (are you 100% sure there aren't any other passages?). However, it does sound like a faulty disc, especially if it happens always at the same spot.

um i actually got this copied game BOUGHT in another COUNTRY, so yeh might as well buy the real thing! but its strange because OTHER ones of the same type DO work, AND have NO problems with them!
