This Video shows Microsoft Windows Longhorn build 6.0.4074, with full DWM enabled (except for stars because those are annoying), I also included a Demo of WLM running, (not too good...)

  • Does this work with VMWare?

  • @Giratinazdeath Longhorn does. DWM does not to my knowledge.

  • This is very different from Windows 7. The only similarities I see is the thick glass taskbar. Everything else is different. This has a more stylish sidebar, 7 has label-free tasks and the desktop/peek button. There are a lot of differences.

I wish Vista/7 had kept the Explorer file browser from 7. It looks so much better.

  • Stability wise, it was a disaster. No amount of refining could really fix the mess Longhorn was. So they did the rational thing and started over. Now, Vista was by no means perfect, but neither was Longhorn. And in the end, Vista SP2 is decent. Windows 7 it currently at RTM stage and that's turned out very well so Microsoft may very much earn back some of that trust lost at Vista's launch.

  • how do I enable aero in longhorn?

  • lawl :D

  • @Shrimp4074 Hahaha, no. Their only trust is being given by me through Windows XP, but since they're dropping that, I'm dropping my trust for M$. The Aero still sucks and Vista is still unstable (SP2 and my wired mouse stopped working. I switched to Ubuntu which has Compiz, a DWM alternate for Linux.)

  • @Shrimp4074 DWM does with a couple of tweaks, manual install drivers (vmware tools fail to install, but the drivers are official from vmware), and it works.

  • @Shrimp4074 if we use the "hardware acceleration" feature would DWM work?

  • why longhorn 4074 got windows vista mouse cursor?

  • Hey can you tell me how you did this?

  • You know, they should have at least kept this look for the final version of Windows Vista and 7. I was really a big fan of the original Aero theme in theese builds of Longhorn; sad that Microsoft changed it to something that looks terrible. I don't know - maybe it's the more simplified glass borders without that annoying panning reflection that makes this version of Aero more usable.

Oh well - there's still Windows 8, and there's custom Windows themes...
