Notes - Many so called spiritual teachers are just using spiritual words in the service of the ego to gain power due to fear.
May all beings be careful.

he's so right that such a big part of this 'new age movement' is created by egos, not souls, and that is truly sad

@ olywood--As far as the " secret" goes..it is merely a modernday repackaging of a universal truth from Hermes Trismegistus..also known as the Hermetic code. The very I AM consciousness can be expressed as the ego, but when it is realised as a direct experience with no seperation.. it is spirit..root of spirit.

It's good to know that Ram Dass has a healthy and playful sense of humour ... some of these spiritual teachers get too stuffy and heavy for their own good.

@pwillits80 I drive a prius cause I want to put my money where my mouth is. We don't do these things to make you feel bad. It just comes from asking myself, what can I as an individual, do? Our projections get in the way of reading into other people's motivations, then we get made at the illusions we create. we're all souls, stumbling along the Path. All these attempts to reach out via Facebook could be searches for spiritual community;hard to find people who recognize Truth, but we try.

@sirsmokesalotaganja2 no, not really. I met him many times and have followed what he has done for 35 years. When he messes up, he admits it publicly. You could say we are all assholes trying to get the world to agree with us. But that's just our ego, which is a limited concept of who we are, speaking out. Egos are so fearful because they know "me against the Universe" is a losing battle. When you realize you are a part of it, the subject/object expands. We all have fault lines.

@Saattya Even in 1945 Aldous Huxley's book named The Perennial Philosophy spoke of the movement of the individual to find the soul. Ram Dass speaks of consciously using this incarnation to reach true awareness and identification with Truth, which is not a dualistic state.

im sure her ego is just like mine

@sirsmokesalotaganja2 This actually has nothing to do with belief. A belief is a psychic imprint on the mind, and trust me, that isnt my belief. Actually, I have no idea. Peace

@Saattya That's the most productive and honest response I've ever seen. It's like the perfect mix of honesty, and other things I don't feel like thinking about.. point is: I'm going to use it sometime! LOL!
-
@Saattya as far as I'm aware, the secret refers to the law of attraction which is often referred to as the secret. It's a way of thinking which bring your desires into reality.

yes, I see the ego servicing the needs of the soul all the time in my local surroundings. But it cannot be bought. $50 peace symbol t shirts and driving a new Prius and aspiring to be "something else", something "superior to others" is the function of the ego. Especially when it is naricissitically communicated via Facebook! ugh! But hey, my games are probably just as misguided... at least I'm aware of them.
Yeah, I immediately thought of the 'secret' as soon as he starting going on about spiritual rip-offs that cator to the ego.

@olywood9
What do you mean by the 'secret'?
Saattya 11 months ago
@Saattya "The Secret" is a popular book and movie. How is this a rip-off?

@xxxhammadxxx
I don't know, I haven't said anything about a rip-off. I was asking 'olywood9' to clarify what he meant in his previous post where he said: "Yeah, I immediately thought of the 'secret' as soon as he starting going on about spiritual rip-offs that cator to the ego."
What I gather at this point: olywood9 is suggesting that 'The Secret' might be a spiritual rip-off that caters to the ego, as described by Ram Dass in this audio clip. When he heard Ram Dass it made him think of Secret

Some people are afraid of the truth, afraid of Dharma. The Ego runs away, resists and must protect itself from truth, from Dharma.
Search Wikipedia for the article : Defence_mechanism
Very revealing.
The ego is afraid of being exposed, of humiliation, embarrassment. The ego clings to self-centered experiences.
