I also like Kubrick and Clarke's droll line at the outset, where Dr. Floyd describes the unearthing (um, so to speak) of the Monolith -- solid evidence of an Extraterrestrial presence -- as "among" Mankind's most significant scientific discoveries. A sly jab at hubris, that.

I like the photographer pressing the button to leave the room at 0:26 and then pressing the blank wall to close the doors behind his at 0:29. I always get a chuckle out of that!
