@singedrac Actually they're meteoroids. Meteors are the streaks they make across the sky when they burn up in the atmosphere. They become meteorites once they land on earth.

I remember reading back in the 1980s that some company redid the special effects. I wonder if that version is avalible?

One of the pioneering movies about going into space. Also an excellent use of the thermin and a talented music composer. A great piece of movie music.
I think is one of the best 1950's sf films. (Forbidden Planet takes all)
