Research psychiatrist, E. Fuller Torrey, contends that the mentally ill have been mis-treated and recounts how many were released from public mental hospitals beginnings in the 1960's void of the proper care. Mr. Torrey contends that one-third of the homeless are mentally ill as well as one-tenth of people incarcerated. E. Fuller Torrey discussed his book on the C-SPAN program, Washington Journal.
@Sparco41e LOL, I'm not a fucking scientologist, psychiatric drugs have been proven to cause permanent brain damage, the only reason psychiatry hasnt accepted it is because it would mean the end of their entire fucking profession, its literally down to outright lies psychiatrists are making to keep their jobs. "oh ya, antipsychotic drugs actually SLOW brain atrophy!" lol, no. this guy just acts all calm, read criticisms of him by other mental health people and stuff, they all disagree with him

Blindguardian523 uses the word "Nazi", Johnwarndt52 uses the word "poison", and Dmackler58 makes claims that are clearly false. These are the tactics of the Scientologists who go after factual information like that provided by Dr. Torrey to advance their deliberately misleading agenda.

The first caller is indicative of the problem. You can't moralize the problem away. Leaving aside the rights issues, it would be tremendously costly and impractical to follow the caller's advice. Notice that insane people tend to be very righteous. Most people have a very simplistic view of reality and wish for one because they want control, certainty and predictability.
The collapse of family and community in america has greatly contributed to this problem.

I have a tape of this creep being interviewed by Terry Gross on her npr show Fresh Air, where he brags- yes BRAGS- about using his own sister's nicotine addiction to coherce into taking her psych poison. Want your ration of KOOLs, Sis? Then take your meds!
Some "doctor", huh? Use one poison to pressure somebody you claim to love into taking another.

Look into this guy. He sounds sensible, but he's actually pretty dangerous. Aside from the forced treatment and such, he's had to settle in court for obtaining a brain illegally for millions of dollars. He thinks domestic house cats cause mental illness through a virus they carry. Let's create a ghettto for the mentally ill!!! Lock them up. Listen to that lady on the phone!

this guy is scary---seems so humble and gentle, but he's not.
schizophrenia and bipolar are brain disorders? hardly.
no cure yet? NOT TRUE. tons of people with schizophrenia have recovered. i know about a hundred myself.
forced medication? (which he says is needed.) cruel and dangerous.
don't believe him so quickly.
