Japanese imo = yam (it's a kumara!), yaki = roasted. Traditionally, roasted on hot stones.
Saw these trucks around Asakusa, with the charcoal/wood burner and yakimo in tin foil. He gave me a huge one, too big to eat, and without salt or butter it was kinda hard to swallow. Neverless I said "Mmmmmm, oishe, ne?" (Ooh how delicious!)
We liked the mournful nature of the song "Yakimooooooooooooo!"
