Amateur Radio operators from around Colorado climb many of Colorado's 14,000-foot mountains to set up amateur radio stations in an effort to communicate with other radio amateurs across the state and around the world every second Sunday in August. This video is about N0B's adventure up Huron Peak (14,003ft) with Guy/N7UN, Rich/AC7MA and Steve/wg0at and their faithful sherpa goats Rooster and Peanut, Plus California ham radio operators who climbed, hiked and bike their way up 14ers to activate peaks for Summits On The Air (SOTA).

  • You're a lucky hiker with a strong stomach/intestines my friend. I've contacted giardia twice while hiking here in the Rockies. And it wasn't fun!! Hence I always boil or filter the water I drink without fail.

  • Another epic in the can Steve. Enjoy every one of them immensely. Curious as to what camera and what video editing software is used to produce this most recent video? In earlier clips wasn't the the format wider?

  • @shenb Thanks! I have a half dozen small camcorders, helmetcams and pocket digital cameras. I use different cameras for different situations etc. Thus the different formats. The helmetcam (hatcam) was on the 16x9 format in this case you noticed. I mostly shoot std. definition as it' easier to edit with the smaller files. I edit in Final Cut on my old G5 Mac. This last video took over 50-hrs of editing! Doesn't include the shoot!

  • Hey Steve,

Was this hike from the South Winfield Trailhead?

  • Thats a good idea. Have the goats carry your load up the mountain and then eat them. No, just kidding. Looks like fun!

  • Hi Steve, R&P

  • Amazing... snow..ice and as always dirty great big mountains, here in VK6 we have no snow, no ice and no mountains.

Plenty of sandy beaches for a vertical antenna ground plane though, about 9000 miles of coastline here on the Indian ocean coast.

Say Gday to peanut for me

    Cheers from Perth
