A unique rendering of this piece, recorded in 1930. This is the way i like a singer has to sing: simplicity of expression, intensity, beautiful voice, sense of the whole...

  • This is lovely but his second recording of this, from the early 1950s, is even better. It doesn't seem to be available anywhere. Has anyone out there got it? Fancy posting it? In the meantime, many thanks medtner1970 for posting this. Wonderful...

  • @sophoclex I have a recording of Patzak "Die Legende von Klein Zaches" (Il etait une fois...) on a cd of Decca/London label, recorded in 1955 conductor R.Moralt and full choir. Maybe this is what you are looking for? I can't post everything I like, the copyright is not mine, only sometime I post a piece if I suspect that it is not well known like I think it deserves. This is why I have not posted more and more by Patzak or Grigory Ginzburg, but I can send mp3 via mail to you.

  • @sophoclex On my channel, i have also tried to make available pieces like "Legend of Chuck-A-Luck" from F.Lang's Rancho Notorious with lyrics because I think maybe it is useful for we italian, for example, because our dvd carries not subtitles nor the american version I think, and not everybody is able to write down the lyrics (and I usually have lot of difficulties). _ The Patzak cd is "Great voices of the 50s", with Mado Robin and Hilde Gueden too.

  • He was absolutely one of the greatest tenors ever...

  • ...and I agree with you!

    Thanks for your comment!

  • Magnificent - what a great singer. Thank you for posting.

    Regards-John

  • Thanks for your help and advice medtner1970 - greatly appreciated. Yes - it was the Decca Moralt performance I was referring to. I remembered it from an old "Artist's Portrait" 10 inch LP from way back. But by a wonderful stroke of luck I have managed to acquire a copy - in very good nick - from a shop in London.. Thanks for everything, especially for the earlier "Kleinzack" which I hadn't heard before. Patzak - what an artist!!

  • And I agree with both of you! Probably the most gorgeous lyric tenor voice in recorded history!

I have 4 arias of his up on my channel, I didn't find them anywhere else on youtube. His Manon was particularly beautiful...
