Before becoming a variety entertainer -singer-impressionist,
(William) Pete Peterkin devoted his life to songwriting.
Pete wrote this song at the age of 17 and presented it to the late great Donny Hathaway in the early 70's.
When Donny disappeared due to health issues Pete forgot about the tune...that is until Donny re-surfaced with this recording of the forgotten soul classic.

  • 30 years has passed since our beloved soul pioneer had left us...Ol' Donny Hathaway. Wish I had the time to meet him or seen him in concert for the first time. He's a heckuva musician/singer/arranger/composer. They'll never another one but his music, soul and spirit carries us on today.

  • Thank you for posting this great song.

  • Lalah Hathaway's version of this song is absolutely beautiful. I can't find it. Does anybody know if it is just a single or album?

  • great song- love donny- if anyone has the chords to this I would be eternally grateful?

  • the biggest love from Poland Donny!i think that is not only not from me!make it on your own

  • I think Donny influenced many artists who became great. Soul Music sounded different prior his 1970 "Everything is Everything" release. If one listens to Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder prior to "What's Going On" (1971) and "Talking Book" (1972), their sound was different. Donny truly influenced them.

  • Donny said he wanted to create symphonies. Listening to Extension Of A Man gives us a peak at what his symphonies would sound like. That album is an eclectic of a many genres of music...and IT WORKS. Only Donny could pull that off.
