Here Matt Wesley uses the RTI 300s functional electrical stimulation to arm cycle. The RTI 300 sends electrical impulses to electrodes placed on Wesley's muscles, the electrical impulses cause Wesley's muscles to contract. The RTI 300s computer takes readings every couple of seconds and provides an adequate amount of electrical stimulation to achieve the desired RPMs throughout the entire workout. The RPMs and the resistance can be adjusted on the touchscreen; the resistance allows Wesley to build muscle strength (through resistance training). Using FES provides people with spinal cord injuries many benefits, including: prevention of muscle loss, muscle strengthening, improve circulation, provides a cardiovascular exercise, and many others benefits.
