"And when he came back the tree was so happy she could hardly speak." always makes me laugh, cause it's a tree! This is a beautiful and sad story. The tree loves the boy unconditionally even though he doesn't reciprocate. The tree is not wrong to love the boy; it makes her happy. If she didn't love the boy, maybe she would feel like she had no purpose.
