David Foster Wallace (February 1962 - September 2008) was an American author of novels, essays, and short-stories — and a professor at Pomona College in Claremont, California. He was best known for his 1996 novel Infinite Jest,
which Time included in its All-Time 100 Greatest Novels (1923-2006).

In 2008 Los Angeles Times book editor David Ulin called Wallace "one of the most influential and innovative writers of the last 20 years."

His wife told Claremont police that the novelist and humorist who wrote 'Infinite Jest' hanged himself. He was 46.

  • i awoke this morning and this video was on my suggested video screen. loving DFW as i do, i had to watch and listen.

thank you for posting this evocative piece. listening, i had the feeling that the recurring F# and E were the ever-present demons that fueled so much of his mania, while the lead was his muse given full voice. regardless, i think the piece met his standard of "what it feels like to be a fucking human being."

    bravo. and thanks,

all the best and then some,

    michael

  • I appreciate the kind words. Your comment is one of the best I've ever received.

  • which song is this? thanks for this tribute

  • I just made it up. It's a simple riff of F# and E power chords with a delay effect from a pedal, then I'm improvising using mostly F# pentatonic minor.

  • So well done. Did you know him?

  • Thanks.

    Unfortunately, I never met him.
